The notion of national identity has become very popular in recent years. It is treated like playing card in mouths of many politicians, who use it as a tool in their political dirty games. They fear publicity that undergoing globalisation process and European enlargement have great impact in destroying our identity. But I dont agree with them. In my opinion globalisation process makes me aware of my roots and my identity. Why? Because globalisation means that everything is becoming very similar, almost the same. And, if somebody wants to differ from others, then he must highlight his own values or... roots. So many young people are trying to learn something about their ancestors, about their nations heritage. Theyre studying the history of their families. Then, when abroad, the fell proud of their families colourful past and successes.
The other thing that helps increasing the national awareness is every kind of national competitiveness . Especially sport events. We are cheering together when we win as well as we are crying together when we loss. Every supporter on the stadium fells that he is part of a great Polish family. It won't let him forget about his roots.
And there are many evidences of vivid national identity all over the world. Old customs in Alpine countries and Chinese feng-shui can be a good example
To sum up, globalisation is an inevitable and irresistible process and it depends on us, whether we lose our identity or not. This is also a great challenge for our governments to cultivate our history and to fight against every wrong aspect connected with globalisation.
